Process Videos

These videos show the process I have been using to cut and finish off the steel pieces.  First I cut the pieces out of my 14G steel sheet.  I then hit them with the grinding wheel and finally the wire wheel giving it a smooth edge.

final model so far

Model Progression:
I started the site context by making a mold and pouring it out of plaster my thoughts on this were to continue my exploration of materials that i have come across during this semester.  Further more, I believe that the steel model of my building will look great against the pure white site.  I also began building my steel model by cutting out the floors and walls utilizing a grinder I "borrowed" from work and an epoxy to hold it all togeather.  So far they have been coming out great although I got kicked out of the wood shop and am forced to work outside.  Aa far as the model goes though, the majority of it I think will be steel and I have some aluminum mesh that I am thinking of using on for some of the walls as well as some plexi.  I am also considering the use of copper for the roof as well as some copper mesh for parts of the roof that would allow light in. I am unsure though if it would be too much material change and i should just keep it monochrome but i figure ill see how it looks.  Also one question is do we also have to build that smaller 3/32" site model?  I found that to be ab ishy requirement from talking to others in the group.

Resin and Lack of Ventillation

While working with the resin, I poured several cubes but want to add more to the clear pieces i have though of adding silver leaf and molding it within the resin casts and then recasting those within the final plaster cast.  I am deciding on to either cast the silver leaf on the back side, mixed within the resin or layered within the resin either vertically or horizontally.

Resin Molds

Castings

I started casting my section with plaster using foam core for the mold and also added pieces of plexi to be cast within.  I decided that I wanted to cast the some parts of the drawing in a clear resign and the insert them in the plaster mold to be cast as part of the larger drawing in plaster.  My first attempt with the clear resign turned out fairly well being an awkward shape that would be difficult to make out of plexi.  I am no casting the remaining pieces.  I was also very surprised as to how well the curve came out and am debating if I should incorporate it or not.
